Middlebury, VT When Middlebury College does something, they do it first class. As part of the Snow Bowl renovation project that resulted in modernizing the Ross and Allen trails and adding several thousand meters of protection netting, the college purchased an ALGE full matrix LED results board from Reliable Racing Supply. The ALGE RTNM is a multi-line display that shows both alpha and numeric characters with full graphics capability. The display is now supported by USSA/FIS software, thanks to support by Geoff Elder of Split Second, the creator of FIS/USSA software. A free graphics software suite provided by ALGE will allow Middlebury to show interesting images, both stationary and moving, and provide visual announcements to race fans and guests. During a competition, the multi-line display will show the skier’s name, affiliation, times (running, intermediate and finish) and current ranking. Between runs, results listings will scroll through – just like one sees at a World Cup venue. The semi-portable unit will receive data via a TAG Heuer HL630 wireless modem, and 12-volt DC power will be provided by a deep-cycle marine battery or portable gas generator until such time that the Snow Bowl can install AC power at their finish lines.
Reliable Racing Supply is a US agent of ALGE Timing, and the sole US agent of TAG Heuer timing. The display system complete with wireless modem is valued at approximately $16,000, representing a significant investment by the College and the first of its kind ever delivered in the USA.
